Eugene's plastic bag ban was finally implemented on May 1st of this year, just a few days ago!
Any and every retailer is prohibited from using plastic bags for their customers, and charges an additional five or ten cents for any paper bag that is needed. The ultimate goal is to entice customers to BRING and use their reusable grocery bags when shopping.
Most people have reusable bags, the problem is remembering to bring them with you while shopping. A great way to not forget your bags is to just keep them in your car, or carry a Chico bag that folds into itself small enough to carry in your purse or backpack.
Plastic bags are a huge contributor to environmental litter being they are picked up by the wind so easily, flying into trees, oceans, and parks from trash containers or dumpsites.
Let's do our part to keep the Earth clean and GO REUSABLE!
